Passport/Visa

Summary: Passports:

A passport valid for three months beyond the length of stay and issued within the past 10 years is required by all nationals listed in the chart above except (1) EU/ EEA nationals holding a passport or national ID card which is valid for the duration of stay. If travelling from one border-free Schengen country to another however, EU/ EEA nationals are not required to show a passport or national ID card, but it is still recommended that you travel with your passport or ID card to prove your identity if necessary. EU/ EEA nationals also are not required to possess a return ticket or show sufficient funds.

Note that Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and the UK are not part of the Schengen area, so a passport or ID card is required if travelling to/from these countries.

Entry With Pets:

If bringing a pet from another EU country, the animal must have a microchip or tattoo, an EU pet passport and a valid rabies vaccination certificate (the vaccination must have taken place at least 21 days prior to travel). Animals from outside the EU must also have a ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip. Depending on if your pet is from a high-rabies country or a rabies-controlled country, your pet either has to be vaccinated or microchipped first. For pets from high-rabies countries, a rabies tier test must also be administered 30 days after the vaccination. Please check how the European Union classifies the country you are travelling from to follow the right procedure. A veterinary certificate issued by an authorised veterinarian is also required when entering Austria with a pet from outside of the EU.

Visas: Working Days Required:

Visa applications may take up to 15 days and it is recommended to submit applications at least 3-4 weeks prior to departure.

Sufficient Funds:

Schengen visa applicants must be able to provide proof of funds to cover their stay.

Extensions of Stay:

See www.migration.gv.at for details.
